After wondering for about a year plus what happened to The Shins I finally got my answer. The bad news, James Mercer is taking a break from the band until next year at the least. The good news, Broken Bells – Mercer’s new side project with Brian Burton aka Danger Mouse – is born. I honestly couldn’t be happier, I’ve missed Mercers melodic voice and paired with Burtons instrumental edge its a match made in musical heaven . The Shins reinvented with an electronic twist. They just released their self-titled debut album two weeks ago and I already cant get enough.

Although I’ve been a fan of theirs for the past few years I cant say for sure if I’m in love with MGMT’s new album – which for the most part sounds to me like either an acid trip from the 60’s or the background music in a mystical forest ; if mystical forest existed and had background music or maybe a bit of both- has leaked. I can say for sure though that I do love their humility. The guys recently put up a site for fans worldwide to listen to the entire album and fans in the US to pre order. Above the tracks is this note from them:
“Hey everybody, the album leaked, and we wanted you to be able to hear it from us. We wanted to offer it as a free download but that didn’t make sense to anyone but us”
Listen to/pre order their new album Congratulations!
